TEEN Poetry Workshop
Come write, read aloud, listen, discuss, debate and workshop with other teen poets. We’ll read poems and lyrics, work on form, rhythm, shapes and sonics, and wind it up with our own poetry slam.
Time: Saturdays, June 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th, noon 2 p.m.
Cost: $60 four workshops or $17/drop-in.
Place: Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1022 Grand Ave.

OUT OF THEIR MOUTHS: Teaching Children Creative Writing
M-F, June 8-12, 2009
Come join other teachers of ages 8-18 to learn hands-on poetry and prose exercises, many performance, publication, revision, and grading methods, how to work with student anxiety and apathy, and most importantly, how to enjoy the creative process so you can teach it. 2 credits.
Hours: 9 a.m.-noon & 1-4:00 p.m., 6 hours/day
Cost: $300($290 before June 1st) plus optional credit costs

HEAD IN THE CLOUDS: Writing the Memoir/Novel
M-F, July 20-24, 2009
Come immerse yourself in a novel or memoir, writing a continuous draft without judgement or editing, until you arrive at escape velocity, where the momentum whirls you further and further into the story. You’ll read three short books before class to discuss narrative structures, workshop with other teachers, and come to understand books through beginning one. Texts will be Plainsong, by Kent Haruf; Stone Heart: A Novel of Sacajawea, by Diane Glancy, and Am I Somebody? The Accidental Memoir of a Dublin Woman, by Nuala O’Faolain 2 credits.
