Retreats

"Crestone Mountain Zen Center"

Come on an autumn retreat in a Buddhist temple, a well of quiet that stills the mind and leads to deep, magical work. The legendary Crestone monastery, at 8400 ft., (www.dharmasangha.org) was founded by the heir of Shunryu Suzuki, author of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind. Writers will have hours alone and together to write poetry or prose and discuss readings of ancient and modern literature inspired by the feminine sacred. This is a long weekend to write, dream and expand your craft, whether you are an experienced or beginning writer.

Optional walking/sitting meditation, a dharma talk based on the group's questions, private conferences, afternoon yoga sessions with Susan Crosby (www.yogawest.org), hiking, nearby hot springs, lodging and gourmet vegetarian food by the monks who authored The Tassajara Bread Book.

Hours: 4:30 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 27 @ noon Sun. Sept. 30 Cost: $425 ($400 if paid in full by Sept. 1). One scholarship available.
